Seeing a large brown beetle crawling around your bathroom can be an unpleasant surprise. You may immediately wonder: Where did it come from, and does its appearance mean something is wrong with my home?
The insect in the photo appears to be a scarab-type beetle, similar to a June beetle or cockchafer. Although these beetles can look intimidating, finding one in your bathroom does not automatically mean that your home is dirty or infested.
Here’s what its appearance may actually be telling you.
1. Your bathroom may be providing moisture
Many insects are attracted to damp environments. Bathrooms naturally contain moisture from showers, sinks, and condensation.
If your bathroom stays humid for long periods, insects that accidentally enter the house may find the environment more comfortable.
This is especially common when ventilation is poor.
2. It may have entered through a small opening
